Art Star Phototographer/Rocker Night at The Sunset Tavern

Yes, I did win in the category of "Artist's Choice." I won THIRD out of four finalists because the first two weren't there anymore by the time prizes were awarded. Of course, Cal and Stacia, the kids running the contest, assured me that my picture was thier REAL favorite. But I honestly liked being third. I got up on stage and thanked my bizarre friends, who make all of my better photographs possible, and accepted the award on behalf of all third-placers, who are able to walk away with the prize because they showed up.

Here's to showing up!

Art Star for Amateurs

Some things just stay good...
The Art Star photo contest was something Joe and I entered just to kick our own asses a bit and have an excuse to show our pictures to someone besides each other. I'm a finalist, and one of my shots is going up on the Stranger Suggests link tomorrow (see the winning photo at right). I recognize that the whole contest is a clever marketing collaboration between Art Star and The Tavern but, considering that I really am just getting started in the world of photography, I dig the encouragement. My friends and I will drink lots of martinis at The Sunset Tavern this Saturday in order to show our appreciation. Stay tuned to see if I *win.*

I dyed my hair this weekend. Then I spent about twenty minutes taking pictures of myself like I was going to be in one of those hairstyle magazines they always have at the salons. I have always wanted to be a hair model in one of those magazines. I wanted my stylist to be so impressed with herself after finishing my cut that she would beg me to stay for another hour while she called this photographer friend in for an emergency shoot. It's okay...you can put my picture in your hairstyle magazine. I won't charge you. Posted by Picasa

These women pretended they wanted to buy some jam for about four minutes while I snapped pictures. They were very cooperative and were unpaid.

I've said it before, I'll say it again, "You want to make friends? You start." Posted by Picasa

I still love riding public transportation. Everyone should take a bus or a train at least once a week. It reminds you of how odd you must seem to other people...given how strange they all seem to you. Posted by Picasa

Baby's first blog

Guy Kawazaki just convinced me to blog. He did it through Dave Hardwick and Larry Chiang, two of my clients who believe that Guy hung the moon, and I pretty much have come to love The Guy, myself.

Never at a loss for words, I have plenty to say. Often at a loss for time, I won't be able to say it, right now. If you're just tuning in, tune in this Sunday night, when I am sure to have something very amazing to share with you, surely.
